Dating Voilence

With the ordeal of Rihanna and Chris Brown, the problem isn't whether she deserved it or not. It's the fact that putting your hands on anyone in that matter is an act of domestic voilence. What kind of message is this sending to young people? That it's okay if a man hits you? The message is a dangerous one. Rihanna forgave brown not even a month after the incident! I'm sure kids have heard this news and when Rihanna and Chris Brown appear on the Kids Choice Awards at the end of March...Rihanna is showing kids that this kind of behavoir is okay.
In health class i'm learning about abusive relationships. The question everyone asks is "why don't you just leave?" The fact is it's easier said then done. The woman believes that he'll change, or he doesn't mean to or even that she loves him no matter what he does. The truth behind this is fear. What would he do if she left him? I watched something like this on a 20/20 episode. The girl allowed her husband to first control her. The control turned into little physical actions such as pushing. Since she allowed him to do that, he felt he had complete control and was able to physically and mentally abuse her. What would you do in this situation?

Euthanasia

I personally feel that assitanting in someone's suicide doesn't make it a suicide at all but more a homicide. However, i agree with Oregon's way of dealing with a situation like this. They allow doctors, not regular citizens, to help terminally ill people kill themselves.
The word terminal is a key word. If doctors give the patient six months to live and they are truly in pain then i believe that could be an acception. I feel that otherwise, taking someones life into your hands by helping them kill themselves is just unmoral. Its not assisting in a suicide but commiting a homocide.
Plus, you're unsure of whether or not the patient will get better. Ending a life becuase of a medical condition is a grave decision that should involve a doctor. One doctor explained that one patient made a "remarkable recover" and was cancer-free at the time of his suicide. This is an example that proves that having the "right to die" could be a mistake on both the client and the assistant.

Beyond the Death Penalty; What happens when values and economics collide?

To kill, or not to kill? Now that's a question. Although its said that it's not in our hands to decide who lives or dies, the death penalty is given to killers in at least 36 states. This is more than just moral values. States are beggining to stop the death penalty because of the costs."It's cheaper to imprison killers for life than to execute them, according to a series of recent surveys." Values come back into place, when another reason is becuase if you eliminate capital punishment, you elimate the risk of executing an innocent person. An example of values and economics colliding is occuring right now. Our economy is weak, and the more i learn in AP eco, the more i realize how our situation could turn into a depression. If someone were to be given the death penalty at this point it would be a complete waste of money; money that could be used towards something else. I'm against the death penalty becuase a judge and jurors should not be in charge of deciding who should live or die, no matter was the criminal did.

Where am i going?

Nazareth baby! I was accepted into Nazareth college in the social work program and i couldn't be more excited. I'll be living in the dorms [away from parents ^.^] and rooming with one of my bestfriends Jess! I was so excited when i found out that not only would i be attending the college of my dreams, but i recieve $10,000 a year to put towards tuition and room&board. Not to mention the other financial i'll recieve from "tap" and all that other stuff. Yeaaa, right now i'm cruising down the path of a partially less stressful summer. But before even a little bit of my stress level can go down, i have to fill out my FAFSA...AAAAHHHH!!!
